The file format must be associated with Imagenation because when you
choose File
Open in Internet Explorer (IE), MIME types
are used to open the file, so the executable associated with the file
format will run. For example, if .dwg
is associated with Imagenation, and .dxf
is associated with AutoCAD in the Registry. When you choose File
Open for a .dwg file,
it will open in IE. However, when you choose File
Open
for a .dxf file, it will open
in AutoCAD, not in the IE Plug-In.
In Internet Explorer 5.0, Service Pack 2 (or better), you can chose
File
Open in Internet Explorer to open and display any
file formats in the Plug-in that are supported by Imagenation. The format
of the file you are opening must be associated with Imagenation.
If you use a version of Internet Explorer earlier than IE 5.0, Service Pack 2, then we recommend that, if possible, you update Internet Explorer to at least version 5.0, Service Pack 2.
If you cannot update Internet Explorer, and the current version is between (and including) 4.0 and 5.0, then we recommend you add the following Key to the Windows Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Imagenation.Document\BrowseInPlace @ = "Imagenation Document"
With newer operating systems you can associate formats with multiple applications. For details, see Format associations in Windows 2000 and XP.
In the previous release of the IE Plug-in, if you chose File
Open in Internet Explorer, the file was opened with the program
associated with the file format. For example, if .dwg
was associated with Imagenation, and you attempted to open a .dwg
file, then it would open in Imagenation, not in the Plug-In.
