image\postit_shg.gif Applies to Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, and Vista only.

Often, colors in a document cannot be reproduced identically from one output device (printer or monitor, for example) to the next because the color spaces on each device are different. Viewing environment and display conditions can also affect color. Color management provides a method to ensure color consistency across devices.

The PDF format may embed ICC-complaint device profiles within the document.

To define color management:

1. Choose Preference ® Options, image\plus_shg.gif Format.

2. Click Adobe PDF/PS.

3. Click Advanced.

In the Advanced dialog box:

3. If it is not already checked, select the Use Embedded Profile check box.

4. If you want to use color profiles which are embedded within the document, select Use Embedded Profiles. If the profile is not valid, no color conversion will be performed.

5. In the Color Profile: RGB list, select the desired RGB color profile for conversion. This profile depends on your monitor.

or

• In the Color Profile: CMYK list, select the desired CMYK input color profile.

If the required profile is not found in the list, you can add or install a different profile.

6. Select the desired Rendering Intent.

If you are not sure what to set, the default, Picture, is adequate in many cases. For details on rendering intents, refer to Microsoft's MSDN site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/icm/icm_0e43.asp

These settings have no effect on the active document, but color management will apply to all PostScript and PDF documents that you now open.
