The active edit layer is the one that can be edited and marked up. The active raster layer is affected by most of the Raster, and some Edit and View, commands. Each page in each document contains, at most, one active edit layer and one active raster layer.

To activate or deactivate a layer:

In the Layers window (Preference ® Layers):

1. Right mouse click the name of the layer to activate or deactivate.

2. From the menu that appears, choose Activate or Deactivate, as appropriate.

The title bar of the document window displays the labels of the active layers (if any). If they were hidden, activated layers are displayed. If no active layer of one type appears on the page, the commands that apply to these active layers appear dimmed.
