The active edit layer is the one that can be edited and marked up. The active raster layer is affected by most of the Raster, and some Edit and View, commands. Each page in each document contains, at most, one active edit layer and one active raster layer.

To change which layer is active:

1. Choose Layer ® Activate.

In the Change Active Layer dialog box:

2. If both raster and edit layers appear on the page, click the type to activate: Raster or Vector.

3. Click the name of the layer to activate. (The Deactivate button deactivates all layers of that type.) Click OK.

The title bar of the document window displays the labels of the active layers (if any). If they were hidden, active layers are displayed. If no active layer of one type appears on the page, the commands that apply to these layers appear dimmed.
