A banner is a text string, similar to a header or footer in a word processing program, that can be placed on the top or bottom of a printed or faxed page, or rasterized with an image. The banner appears outside the image boundaries

A stamp is a text string that appears by itself on a layer that is rendered first or last, and that is not accessible through normal layer transactions. The stamp appears within the image boundaries. It can just be displayed or it can be stamped onto prints, faxes, or rasterized images.
